IMG_2736.jpg

YEKR successfully organized the Bintan MPA Campaign on April 2, 2021, at Dugong Km Beach. 52 Malang Rapat Village, Bintan Regency. This campaign is a series of efforts to establish a Bintan MPA. There are several activities in this Campaign, such as interactive talk shows about Marine Protected Area, the release of seahorses and sea turtles, and coral transplantation as an effort to educate and concern for the environment and protected and endangered biota. We also display mural art, and a home industry product bazaar, one of them is Seahorse Coffee (Kopi Kuda Laut) which is a product of Marine and Fisheries Biopharmacology.

In this campaign, we take the theme "Utilizing Bintan MPA for Community Welfare" with the hope that the community is aware of the importance of marine conservation areas, and how local communities can be involved to support and make this conservation effort successful. We are happy to collaborate with Marine and Fisheries Department (DKP Prov. Kepri), Conservation International Indonesia, Raja Ali Haji Maritime University (UMRAH), Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Indonesia, Bintan Culture and Tourism Department, School students, University students, Communities, and Local community who are involved in this campaign.

We believe that what we are doing will receive support from both the government and the local community because Bintan MPA can provide benefits to the environment and local communities.

We inform you that the discussion of MPA document has come to draft 4 and the document needs to revised referring to the latest regulation of Permen KP No 31 year 2020. In this discussion, several things that have been highlighted by the experts will be updated so that they can be used and conveyed at the working group meeting and public consultation planned for April 2021. We focus on the next stage, conducting working group meetings and public consultations to review the Bintan MPA document.

On this occasion, we are pleased to announce that we have formed a new partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an international NGO that focuses on coastal waste management efforts. The NGO, known as Seven Clean Seas, based in Singapore, plans to continue activities previously carried out on Bintan Island with several volunteers who routinely collect coastal waste.

As we all know, waste is a very serious problem. Garbage in the sea has a huge impact on the ecosystem and biota that live in the sea. We realize that through cooperation and collaboration we can help solve the problem of marine debris.
