Kick Off Meeting Support For The Management
Of The Bintan MPA With Partners Konservasi Indonesia and Ecology Foundation

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has issued the Decree No. 18 of 2022 regarding Marine Protected Areas in the Eastern Region of Bintan Island, Kepulauan Riau Province. This conservation area was initiated on 2007 by the Bintan Regency Government, then the process for the proposal was continued by Kepulauan Riau Provincial Government on 2018, and the submission of the MPA Document was sent by the Governor No.556/1683/DKPSET/2021 dated 31 August 2021, and now it has become a strong legal basis to be managed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

 

In order to support the sustainability of the implementation of the Bintan MPA Management Plan in the Riau Islands Province. The Department Maritime and Fisheries Riau Islands Province (DKP Kepri) with Konservasi Indonesia (KI)  dan Ecology Foundation (YEKR) held a Kick off Meeting Support for the Implementation of the Bintan MPA Management Plan. Ecology Foundation is also committed to continuing to support the effective management of the Bintan MPA.

 

Progress in the first phase of the program starting in 2019-2022 with partners DKP Kepri -Konservasi Indonesia - Ecology Foundation have a regulations set by MMAF, as a benchmark for this conservation area to implement the principle of collaboration with various parties so that all management targets can be achieved and provide benefits of amount for all users of the Area.

The expected results in this second phase of the program are a focus on sustainable funding for conservation area management, providing alternative livelihoods for the community and monitoring natural resources and law enforcement in conservation areas. Implementation of this support will be carried out through discussions and field visits to relevant government area users, academics, fishermen, fisheries and tourism businesses and local communities.
