IT'S TIME TO COLLABORATE
AND STOP DUGONG HUNTER
Today on May 5th 2019, located in the Air Glubi village, an MoU was signed between Munsa (Air Glubi fisherman) and Cempedak Island resort represented by Marjan as the General Manager of Cempedak Island resort, related to cooperation in educational tours of dugongs and their habitats. The agreement includes:

1. Cempedak island facilitates Pak Munsa as a conservation worker and educational tour for dugongs (story telling)
2. Pak Munsa is willing to stop dugong hunting.
3. An incentive is given to Pak Munsa for changing the utilization pattern. And as a
conservation and educational tourism force
4. The agreement binds both parties with the supervision of relevant stakeholders. Witnessed by village officials, Yayasan Ecology and Satker BPSPL Padang Tanjung Pinang.

This is the first step in reducing pressure on the Dugong population in Bintan from hunting. This was also spearheaded by DSCP Indonesia, whose program is currently being continued by Padang BPSPL's local partners, Ecology Foundation, and FIKP-UMRAH.
