Hello Ecology Friends!

Did you know that..

Mangrove forests are used as natural tourist objects with the concept of eco-tourism now being more widely spread in Indonesia, such as tourist attractions in Berakit Village, Bintan Regency. The rapid development of tourist objects, in this case mangrove natural attractions, is in accordance with the concept of back to nature, namely the pattern of life returning to nature, thus encouraging tourists to look for tourist destinations that are natural, open and have biodiversity. The shift in tourist interest from old tourism, namely traveling without elements of education and conservation, to new tourism, namely traveling equipped with elements of education and conservation, is also a highlight in tourism development.

The development of a mangrove eco-edutourism destination in Berakit Village is one of the locations chosen as a pilot trip in collaboration with CI Singapore as a destination visit for Singapore school children in 2023. Education in conservation area aims to introduce nature to students and increase students awareness and concern for the environment through environmental and conservation education as well as providing knowledge and skills. It is hoped that after gain learning and experience, participants will know the interactions between species and its habitat and get to know the native tropical wildlife and natural heritage.

Various preparations have been carried out jointly involving the Berakit Village Government, Pokmaswas so that this eco-edutourism destination can be an option from the various choices of destinations on Bintan Island. Ecology Foundation with CI Singapore carried out a joint trial trip starting from the Mangrove Boat Trip Tour activities, Mangrove Planting, spending the night in Bintan and complemented by a bonfire atmosphere around the beach. The activity continued the next day, we conducted a coral transplant workshop at Dugong Beach, followed by a visit to the Maritime Museum which is managed by the Bintan Regency Tourism Office.

Preserving biodiversity is important for all stakeholders who use Bintan MPA, with the support of the Education program and also sustainable tourism, it is an opportunity for all involved, both coastal communities on Bintan Island and also local or foreign tourists. Always implementing activities that minimize the risk of waste generation and also damage to nature is our joint duty, friends of ecology. Come and join us in the effort to implement the young conservation scientist program.
