Hello Ecology Friends!

Did you know that..

Coral reefs are one type of resource that is the target of management a conservation area called the Marine Tourism Park In The Eastern Region of Bintan Island (Bintan MPA). That approach applied to coral reefs this is the total protection of coral reefs that are on 23 core zones, controlling the utilization of coral reefs at snorkeling and tourist sites diving, reef fishing locations, and rehabilitation or recovery in several locations potential. Coral reef management requires baseline data and results monitoring or monitoring to assess the progress of the results of the strategy being applied to managing coral reefs.

In carrying out these tasks, SUOP needs to have good human resources quality so that capacity building is needed for SUOP staffs. One of training activities that have been implemented with the support of the Konservasi Indonesia (KI) work together with the Ecology Foundation (YEKR) is an Assessment Training-Workshop Coral Reef Conditions and Coral Transplantation on 27-30 June 2022 at Tanjung Pinang. This activity was carried out to increase the capacity of SUOP staffs and their partners related to one of its tasks to set the status of conservation targets, in particular coral reefs from a bioecology aspect, where coral reefs are one of the targets conservation in the Bintan MPA (TWP Timur Pulau Bintan).

Following up on the training, KI collaborated with YEKR to support the DKP Riau Islands and SUOP to carry out competency certification tests assessment of the condition of coral reefs on 17 – 20 November 2022 with examiners or assessors from the Professional Certification Institute (LSP) Oceanographic Research Center (PRO) National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) with a Competency Test Site (TUK) at the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries ( FIKP) Raja Ali Haji Maritime University (UMRAH) in Tanjungpinang.

This training refers to a number of competency units from the Special Competency Standards developed by PRO BRIN. This Competency Certification aims to improve the competence of SUOP and partners in planning data collection activities, collecting, processing, and analyzing data to determine the health status of coral reefs in the Bintan MPA (TWP Timur Pulau Bintan).
